So, a list of movies about non-white queer characters!
1. Some of these movies contain tropes thingswithwings mentioned at the top of her post asking for happy queer movies. Many of them don’t, but please ask me for content notes if you’re wondering about a particular film.
2. I am using the US definition of whiteness for the purposes of this post, since that was the perspective deepad requested and that was relevant for her friend.
3. This is a list of recs. Meaning there are many queer films I’ve watched that fit the technical criteria but that I didn’t include here because I, personally, didn’t like them very much. Please feel free to mention things you’ve watched and liked in the comments!

Stunning, Amazing, Most Recced:
♠ - Pariah (USA, 2011). The story of Alike, a 17-year old African-American teenager embracing her identity as a lesbian.
♠ - Beautiful Boxer (Thailand, 2003). The life story of Nong Thoom, a famous kathoey, Muay Thai fighter, actress and model.
♠ - Ander (Spain, 2009). A love story between a Basque farmer and a Peruvian immigrant.
♠ - Undertow (Peru, 2009). A man struggles to come to terms with the unexpected consequences of a secret love.
♠ - Plata Quemada (Argentina, 2001). Nene & Angel and their accomplice Cuervo participate in a botched bank robbery in 1965 Buenos Aires, then hide out from the police in Uruguay.
♠ - Kawa (New Zealand, 2010). Kawariki must become the leader of the family after his father retires. A husband and father, he realizes that in order to lead with integrity, he must come out and be honest about his own life.
♠ - Saving Face (USA, 2004). A Chinese-American lesbian and her traditionalist mother are reluctant to go public with secret loves that clash against cultural expectations.
♠ - Plan B (Argentina, 2009). After girlfriend Laura dumps him for another man, Bruno plots to come between the new lovers. But his plan takes an unexpected turn.

♣ - A Frozen Flower (South Korea, 2008). A historical drama set in the Koryo dynasty and focused on the relationship between a king and his bodyguard.
♣ - Turn Left at the End of the World (Israel, 2004). A family from India moves in to a desert area in Southern Israel in the 1960’s; the family’s eldest daughter discovers friendship and romance with the French-Moroccan girl next door.
♣ - Lan Yu (China, 2001). Wealthy entrepreneur Handong runs a trading company in Beijing. His loyal lieutenant introduces him to Lan Yu, a penniless architecture student.
♣ - Soundless Wind Chime (China/Switzerland, 2009). New immigrant to Hong Kong from China, Ricky is pickpocketed by a Swiss thief, Pascal; the two begin a romantic relationship.
♣ - The Bubble (Israel, 2006). During a compulsory military tour manning occupied West Bank checkpoints, Noam falls in love with handsome Nablus Palestinian Ashraf.
♣ - The Iron Ladies (Thailand, 2000). The true events of a men’s volleyball team, composed mainly of gay and kathoey athletes.
♣ - Farewell My Concubine (China, 1993). The story of two men who met as apprentices in the Beijing Opera and stayed friends for over 50 years.
